Detailed Itinerary
Our experience allows us to know the Chachapoyas Culture in all its splendor, enjoying the comfort in each space and the necessary security, the places that we will visit are:
- Chachapoyas: This city is located in the North of Peru, belongs to the department of Amazonas. Its historic center was declared Cultural Patrimony of the Nation in 1988, what stands out here are its mansions with patio and gardens inside, church and also the buildings of the place's own style.
- This culture coexisted with the Inca Culture and at some point in history they were subjected by it to what upon the arrival of the Spaniards they saw as convenient to unite against the Incas thus allowing their release but therefore over time they were also subjected by the Spanish during the expansion of the colony.
- Kuelap: EIt is an archaeological complex prior to the Inca culture, it is located in the Province of Luya, it was built by the Chachapoyas culture. Large stones were used in its construction, with a large artificial platform. The surrounding walls are approximately 19 meters high, which suggests that it had a protective function like a fortress, but also inside we can find spaces dedicated to other functions such as administrative, religious, ceremonial and residential spaces used mostly by the people who lived in the place.
- Gocta waterfall: It is a waterfall that is close to the towns of San Pablo, Cocachimba and the district of Valera. Popularly, this space has a legend that relates it to the myth of the Sirens that guard a very precious gold treasure. At present, this space is considered a Reserved Zone, so there is a commitment not to affect or impact the environment in any way, in addition to the fact that the ecosystem it has is quite diverse, which is why it is important to preserve the flora and fauna that there is in the place.
- Karajia sarcophagi: They are a group of sarcophagi or coffins that had a funerary function and measured between 2 meters to 2.5 meters high with anthropomorphic features, this was a tradition of the Chachapoyas culture. They were found in the Karajía ravine in the district of Luya. In 1985, the archaeologist Federico Kauffmann Doig organized an excursion to locate this place in Karajía, which kept the group of sarcophagi intact.
- Quiocta Cavern: It is a fantastic and beautiful place hidden in the jungle with an extension of more than 500 meters inside the earth. Its entrance is given through a cave currently known and visited regularly during the year. In the place we can find a large number of stalactites and stalagmites millions of years old that cause interest in visitors. Among the main attractions of the place is the sandeel, the source of desire among others. Each person who visits it usually gives it a different shape, everything is based on the imagination. We will also find in the place a set of cave paintings typical of the Chachapoyas culture. It is a perfect destination for geology lovers and for those who want a new adventure.
- Revash Mausoleum It is considered as the place of origin where the remains and ancestors of the Chachapoyas culture rest. They are located in the district of Santo Tomás, province of Luya in a quite inaccessible sector since they are on the edge of the mountain. They were collective tombs that occupy natural caves and also made in the rocky wall of an imposing ravine. Investigated by the famous archaeologist Federico Kauffman Doig, who defined that the mausoleums are replicas of the houses where the people of the area lived. The colors that we can see mainly are red and cream, in some cases we see a double water roof, this as protection from the rain but they were not necessarily necessary. In the rocks we can see that the figures of circles, flames and other symbols that are considered in their cosmogony or beliefs are painted with red.
